ABOUT THE ARTIST
Donnalee Blankenship
I've always been a maker.
I grew up in a family of artists, storytellers, and craftspeople. In 2010, I found clay—and a medium that brought together my love of making, problem-solving, texture, and form.
Today, my work moves between functional pottery and sculpture, exploring the space where utility, natural forms, and unexpected details meet.
Clay is My Language
After years teaching English and Spanish, I came to understand how much I value the ways we communicate and make meaning.
Clay offers another language. Through form, surface, color, and sculptural elements, I translate ideas into physical objects.
Rooted in Alabama and drawn to the coast, my work reflects an ongoing dialogue between earth and water, function and expression, familiar forms and the unexpected.
Isn't that the challenge?
